Style has a timeless quality that is intrinsically linked to culture. Movements emerge, individuals form new communities, new cultures are born. And in this process, the roots and foundations of our collective history return – not as a resurrection of the past, but as new iterations of culture. From the revival of Y2K sounds and style in hyperpop, or the new take on 1922 classic ‘Nosferatu’, culture is looking back at what shaped our present day. Take a classic – an adidas Originals–signed design – the Superstar. This isn’t just a sneaker – it’s a symbol, a key, and a connecting force.
Born on the court, the Superstar jumped the fence into skate parks, music videos, and clubs, and in 2025, is proof that time is all about how you embody it. From subcultures to pop, and from art to music, adidas Originals is turning the spotlight back on its most infamous silhouette – the Superstar – the Original Icon.
For the rebirth of this icon, adidas Originals explores the style history of the sneaker. The campaign captures the Superstar against an aptly star–studded cast of legends – all of whom rewrote culture in their own way – unveiling the visual history that defines the shoe. With a narration from silver–screen star Samuel L. Jackson, the cast rolls out the Superstar with new interpretations of the style: from Missy Elliott, who’s been rewriting hip hop history since day one; skateboarding hero Mark Gonzales; the NBA icon Anthony Edwards; Memphis rap phenom GloRilla; genre–bending singer Teezo Touchdown; K–pop’s global powerhouse JENNIE; and last but not least, the disruptive style icon Gabbriette, German pop-R&B phenomenon Nina Chuba, Austrian football star David Alaba, and German football champion Florian Wirtz, alongside many more. Seeing these talents on screen embodying the Superstar gives a distinct feeling – that this is a roll call for the next chapter.

Annie Barrett, VP of Marketing at adidas Originals, calls the Superstar “a symbol of originality and a spark for cultural change.” There’s an undeniable truth in her statement – the shoe has been the unofficial uniform of people who refuse to ask for permission, from the world of skate to music – the Superstar is a tribute to identity. “From sport into many subcultures globally, it’s been worn by those who don’t wait for permission to lead,” Barrett confirms. “This campaign isn’t about looking back – it’s about spotlighting a new generation of Originals who are building what’s next, unapologetically.”
In 2025, style is linked to writing our own versions of history. adidas Originals is rolling out the sneaker in its two original colourways, with padding upgraded for 2025 comfort, alongside another icon – the Firebird Tracksuit. Both are reminders that while trends change in an instant, some things just live on in culture.
