Roger Goodell has stated the NFL’s relationship with Jay-Z and Roc Nation isn’t changing despite the rape accusation that was levied against him and Diddy earlier this week.
During a press conference on Wednesday following a league meeting in Irving, Texas, Goodell was asked his thoughts about the civil lawsuit against Jay-Z where he’s being accused of raping a 13-year-old girl back in 2000 alongside Diddy. According to Goodell, the league is up to date with the lawsuit, but their stance with Hov and his company won’t change.
“We are aware of the civil allegations and Jay Z’s really strong response to that,” Goodell said. “We know obviously that litigation is happening. But from our standpoint our relationship is not changing with them, including our preparations for the next Super Bowl.”
Goodell added that he believes Roc Nation is “getting incredibly comfortable” with their role in not just the Super Bowl but also “other events they’ve advised us on and helped us with.” Jay and Roc Nation were also praised for being “helpful in the social justice area” and “great partners” that “provide a lot of value” to the NFL.
In August 2019, Roc Nation and the NFL signed a five-year partnership deal that was renewed in October of this year. The deal makes Roc Nation the NFL’s Live Music Entertainment Strategist as a part of the NFL’s Inspire Change Initiative. So far, the two companies worked on five Super Bowl halftime shows and many other initiatives, such as the Songs of the Season program.
Earlier this week, Jay-Z slammed the lawsuit accusing him of raping a 13-year-old girl alongside Diddy in 2000. The 55-year-old rapper denied the allegations as “heinous” in a statement shared to social media via his Roc Nation account.
“My only heartbreak is for my family,” Jay wrote. “My wife and I will have to sit our children down, one of whom is at the age where her friends will surely see the press and ask questions about the nature of these claims, and explain the cruelty and greed of people.”
