The rising popstar offers deliciously innovative pop maximalism on newest track.
Rising pop star Jacy has unleashed her latest EP, Fake It Till You Make, with music audiences. ‘Temptress’ features as one of the EP’s top tracks.
The 24-year-old artist hails from Sacramento, where she spent much of her younger years cultivating a larger-than-life pop persona, even in a city not known to be a music hub.
Jacy’s music story has been one of forthrightness and full-force energy. Having been cast in the X Factor Season 3 – at just 13 years old – Jacy subsequently toured the US twice before even graduating high school. Fueled by her strong convictions, her relentless work ethic, and a rapidly growing fanbase, Jacy has quietly emerged as one of the most interesting faces of modern pop – with at least half a handful of her latest songs deserving of a spot on ‘Best of 2024’ lists.
Jacy’s new EP, Fake It Till You Make It, dropped in September, giving new and established fans a taster of Jacy’s effervescent electro-pop. Speaking about the EP, the artist herself said: “I wanted to have a project of mine be called “fake till you make it”, because of the amount of times I’ve said it to people while explaining how I got myself into certain situations.”
She added that she wanted her pop sound to be “next era,” while also paying homage to “an iconic Y2k production side.” Much of the writing for the EP stemmed from Jacy’s fascination with modern culture, where the hardest working celebs out there tend to be the ones “faking it” in all the right ways, until eventually they arrive at the top. Most of her songs tackle these themes from a personal level – meaning that the Faking It EP is Jacy’s glorious reflection of modern-day culture.
It’s brilliantly produced, with strong elements of trap, hyperpop and trip-hop. Out of the six songs on the EP, ‘Temptress’ is perhaps the best (in fact, it’s one of finest songs Jacy has released throughout her career). The song is an upbeat pop number with the kind of melodies and percussion elements that even artists like Charli XCX might be impressed by.
‘Aside from being a solid pop number, ‘Temptress’ also has some brilliant lyrical turns, including the deliciously ambiguous, instantly-iconic line “Casting a spell with only one tasting.”
Jacy’s career is still very much in its early stage – but judging by her latest songs, you get the feeling that she’s finally hitting her stride in her artistry.
