Yasiin Bey is foregoing the traditional release strategies of our current era with Money Christmas, a categorization-defying experience that will boast a collection of new material from the artist formerly known as Mos Def.

Money Christmas, per press notes shared on Tuesday, will take the form of a livestream performance on the Bandcamp platform on Dec. 15, with entry set at $7.99. During the livestream, Bey is set to debut what will mark his fist new solo material in five years.

Making this moment even more unique is how Bey is rolling out the music, as it’s initially set to be made available exclusively through the purchase of a QR code issued in tandem with various merch pieces. These items will also be available on the artist’s Bandcamp page.

After that, Bey will be releasing the new material on vinyl, though a release date for that format has not been publicly announced, at least not as of this writing. Anuar Khalifi, no stranger to Bey’s artistic universe, was tapped to collaborate on the official artwork for the Money Christmas performance, resulting in a piece (see above) titled “Osanta Bin Lyin.”

“Whatever you think it is … it’s not that,” Bey told fans in an IG post on Tuesday.

Earlier this year, Bey made headlines after being seen in social media-shared footage freestyling over Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That.” Just over five years ago, Bey’s most recent solo studio recoding, titled Negus, made its debut as a listening installation at the Brooklyn Museum. As pointed out at the time, this was the lone way to experience the project, as it was not released digitally or in any analog format.
