In a new interview, actor Robert Pattinson shared a hilarious interaction he had with an immigration officer.

The 38-year-old told The New York Times Style Magazine that he took a trip to St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the Caribbean with his fiancée Suki Waterhouse for New Year’s in 2023.

During the trip, an immigration officer at the airport said, “Hey, you’re the guy from Twilight. Why’d you stop acting?”

Pattinson, who arguably only really started acting after Twlight, shared, “I was like… ‘I’m Batman?'” In response, “She just laughed.”

After appearing as Edward Cullen in five Twilight movies, Pattinson impressed critics with a number of acclaimed performances in smaller budget films from filmmakers such as the Safdie brothers and David Cronenberg.

His post-Twilight credits include Good Time, Tenet, The Lighthouse, and most recently, The Batman, which grossed over $770 million worldwide at the box office in 2022.

His next major release is the sci-fi black comedy Mickey 17 from Parasite director Bong Joon-ho.

In the interview, Pattinson remarked that he’s not recognized as often these days.

“There’s something about the nature of being fresh meat,” he shared. “They thought, ‘You’re not even a human.'”

It perhaps doesn’t help, then, that he asked The Batman director-writer Matt Reeves for his version of Bruce Wayne to be masked more than in other movie iterations.

“He’s been portrayed until now as a playboy,” he added. “But what if he’s completely socially inept and kind of agoraphobic?”
