Elon Musk isn’t impressed by Saturday Night Live’s impression of him.
Dana Carvey’s depiction of the tech mogul came during the show’s cold open on Saturday. As the Musk character, Carvey wore a dark gray Make America Great Again hat and jumped up and down chanting, “USA! USA!”
“Dana Carvey just sounds like Dana Carvey,” Musk, who hosted SNL in 2021, wrote on X in response to a clip of Carvey’s impersonation.
Musk also responded to another post about his dark-colored MAGA hat making it onto SNL, writing, “They are so mad that @realDonaldTrump won.”
The cold open showed the SNL cast jokingly praising Trump out of concern for the 47th president’s potential crackdown on critics following the election. In the previous episode, Vice President Kamala Harris made a guest appearance with an earnest appeal to voters.
After blasting Carvey’s impression, Musk let loose a longer tirade, writing, “SNL has been dying slowly for years, as they become increasingly out of touch with reality. Their last-ditch effort to cheat the equal airtime requirements and prop up Kamala before the election only helped sink her campaign further.”
The brief bit that got Musk so worked up showed Carvey (as Musk) saying in an exaggerated South African accent, “Check it out: dark MAGA. Yeah! But seriously, I run the country now. America’s going to be like one of my rockets. They’re super cool and super fun, but there’s a slight chance it could blow up and everybody dies.”
Shortly before the presidential election, Musk had a brief spat with Cardi B because he criticized her appearance at a campaign event for Kamala Harris.
At the event, Cardi was supposed to give a speech in support of Harris but was delayed because of a teleprompter issue. Musk, who saw the clip of Cardi posted on X, reposted it with the words, “Another puppet who can’t even talk without being fed the words. The Kamala campaign has no authenticity or true empathy.”
Cardi saw Musk’s message and clapped back with a powerful response. “I’m not a puppet Elon.. I’m a daughter of two immigrant parents that had to work their ass off to provide for me,” she wrote.
“I’m a product of poverty and I’m a product of what happens when the system is set up against you,” she added. “But you don’t know nothing about that. You don’t know not one thing about the American struggle….PS fix my algorithm.”
