To mark the release of his EP, we asked Peckham’s emerging rapper to pinpoint the tracks that he had On Repeat whilst making the tape.
Amongst the UK’s most hotly-tipped new rappers, Peckham riser Twyce offers a deep introspection to his lyrics and sonic endeavours. It’s a refreshingly intimate and thoughtful approach, illustrated in abundance across his new seven-pronged EP, “Who The F**k is Twyce”.
As the project’s title suggests, the EP is a sprawling character study, a documentation of the strife and triumphs of a young South Londoner attempting to make his own way, plagued by grief and situations of strife, ultimately emerging with a vision of the life he is working towards. The beats are strong, sample-laden, and a succinct accompaniment for Twyce’s vivid writing prowess and laid-back delivery. There’s even room for an appearance for drill trailblazer Blanco, a sign of Twyce’s impressive reach despite being in the inaugural days of his career.

Twyce’s On Repeat
Young Adz – “Crazy Life”
I’ve been listening to this song for a while, the title just represents my life & it ties into my tape because of the beat type and the lyrical content. It’s quite a deep but real song to drive to. If you need a drive time song to zone out to I would say listen to Intro, Life or Shadows
Drake – “Family Matters”
Leading up to finishing the tape the beef between Drake & Kendrick created some songs this was one of my personal favourites because it had three parts. I liked how the beat for “100 Thou” gave the song an unexpected turn feeling wise towards the end, I would tell you but you’re better off hearing it yourself.
KayMuni – “Chat To Me”
I found this song recently before the EP finished & it’s a real rap masterpiece. The beat relates to me so much & relates to my beat selections on the tape. If there any songs that fit the feeling of this song it would be “Intro”.
KB – “Boys Don’t Cry”
My boy showed me this years ago it just outlined the effect of the streets whilst turning from a boy to a man, I like the idea of holding feelings in sometimes, this is something I talk about on songs like “Intro” and “On Me”.
Drake ft. Yebba – “Yebba’s Heartbreak”
This is just a vibe you can listen to and relax even though I don’t read too much into the lyrics. I understand the mood of the song which is something I wanted to replicate in “Life”.
Little Torment – “Skatin”
When listening to this, certain elements of the beat really pique my interest. I like beats that have made me spark the right vibe or provoke inspiration, songs that really sparked particular vibes for me on the tape were “Shadows” and “On Me”.
Headie One ft. Kaash Paige – “Cold”
Been feeling this song for a while, It feels like a venting session, I guess I went for a similar feeling on my “Intro”.
Fugees – “Ready Or Not”
This song reminds me of how I was feeling and when you listen to the tape you can find a similar feeling when you hear the production. The call and response of ‘Ready or not, here I come’ reminds me of the call and response you will hear in “On Me”.
