Chances are, your whole social media feed has been filled with pictures and videos from this year’s Primavera Sound. Dubbed the “Powerpuff Girl” takeover for the three headlining acts, Charli xcx, Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan, it feels like every girl and gay descended on Barcelona last weekend.
As the official hair sponsor of the festival, Schwarzkopf pulled up to Primavera Sound with a full-scale takeover that put beauty and self-expression front and centre. From a beachside stage to a glossy pop-up salon, they brought their For Every You initiative to life across the weekend, connecting hair, music and identity. At the festival, Schwarzkopf celebrated the idea that music and beauty have the power to change the way we see ourselves. With For Every You, the brand embraces the idea that no one is just one thing, and Primavera was the perfect place to celebrate that individually in real time.
Below, we broke down everything that happened and caught up with Paloma herself at the Schwarzkopf backstage motel.
Schwarzkopf built an actual salon in the middle of the festival grounds. Open to anyone, the space quickly became a hub where people could freshen up their look or try a new festival look. Braids, wet looks, slicked ponies, and textured waves were on the menu. Best of all, it was free. Trained Schwarzkopf stylists were on hand to help people achieve their looks, or for those in a rush, there was a setup of Schwarzkopf products in front of vanity mirrors for a quick touch-and-go.
The artists and brand ambassadors weren’t left out, either. Inside Primavera’s exclusive artist lounge, The Motel, Schwarzkopf ran a private styling suite where performers could reset before hitting the stage. Headliner and ambassador Troye Sivan stopped by the salon, before taking the main stage on the first night. “Hair is super important to me when I’m getting ready,” explains Sivan. “I feel like if I don’t feel good about my hair, I don’t feel good about anything.”
Set against the backdrop of Barcelona’s beachfront, the Schwarzkopf Stage was a curated, genre-hopping zone of freedom, with sets from Danny L Harle, The Dare, Kelly Lee Owens, Salem, Nu Genea, and more.
The Schwarzkopf ambassador crew was also in town, notably supermodel Paloma Elsesser. Catching up at The Motel, she spoke to us about her favourite festival memories, her dream festival lineup and why a slick back is the perfect hair look for a festival. “[How] it feels to be in Barcelona with Schwarzkopf is very fun, very fab,” she says. “I am here with my friends, and it is just wholesome, I love it.”
Embodying the For Every You message, Elsesser also spoke to us about the different meanings of beauty. “I think beauty to me means figuring out what you’re about,” she explains. “I don’t like to be too prescriptive. You can see someone who is maybe not characteristically beautiful, but is so beautiful. You find beauty and elegance in traits. I think [beauty] is up to you.”
Other musicians, such as Xenia, also got ready with Schwarzkopf. Speaking after her performance, she said: “Primavera Sound represents creative freedom, diversity and a way to discover new projects. I feel like it’s a space where experimental and mainstream ideas coexist without judgment. It’s also a chance to connect with an audience that may have just discovered you. Working with Schwarzkopf boosts the experience by enhancing the expression I want to transmit and my artistic vision from the sound to the visual storytelling.”
