Kevin Durant is not a fan of the new format for the NBA All-Star game.
While speaking to the press recently where he was informed of the game’s new planned process, he made it clear that he doesn’t like the change. “I hate it,” he said. “Absolutely hate it.”
“The All-Star Game format is changing, with all these formats, it’s terrible in my opinion,” he continued. “We should just go back to East/West and play a game. I think we’ve been trying to bring that flare back somehow with All-Star Weekend, but I think we keep it traditional.”
KD then acknowledged that it could work out. “But we’ll see how this works,” he added. “You never know. I might be wrong.”
Earlier today, the NBA officially announced the format for the 2025 NBA All-Star Game. Instead of two teams competing against each other, next year’s event will feature four different teams of eight players going against each other in a knockout-style competition.
The teams will match up in first-to-forty games. The winner of each of those games will advance to a championship match.
Three out of the four teams will be made up of the 24 All-Star players that get selected to play by voters. The last team will be made up of players who win the Rising Stars tournament.
Also adding another new wrinkle to the situation is the fact that TNT analysts Shaquille O’Neal, Kenny Smith, and Charles Barkley will be acting as general managers for three of the four All-Star teams. Candace Parker will be the GM of the team made up of Rising Stars challenge winners. Each of these GMs will be doing the drafting for their teams.
Next year’s All-Star Game is set to take place on Feb. 16.
