Wallo explained what it was like to hold an iPhone and go on Instagram for the first time while serving a 20-year prison sentence.

During his conversation on Complex’s Idea Generation with Noah Callahan-Bever, Wallo revealed his feelings when he booted up Instagram on his iPhone in 2013 while serving time in prison. Wallo was sentenced to 20 years in 1997 and was released in 2017. He began familiarizing himself with the iPhone and posting content on Instagram after his release, soon building a brand off of his motivational videos.

According to Wallo, he couldn’t believe something could connect people together the way Instagram did. Being in jail limits a person’s connection to the outside world, and a lot happened while Wallo served 20 years. So when he got out and saw an opportunity at his fingertips, he went out to go get it.

“I heard about it, but I didn’t know what it was, and just seeing it, it messed my mind up. I was like, ‘yo it was amazing.’ I couldn’t believe it. I can’t believe that people could connect with people all over the world on this platform,” said Wallo. “I’m like, ‘What? Oh this is unbelievable,’ you know? ‘Cause when you get locked up, you stuck in a time that don’t exist no more. You be locked up for 10 years, five, so it’s like I was locked up all this time, and I’m finally out oh it’s up, it’s on and I went on there, and I just started studying.”

He continued, “I learned that the timeline is a battle for attention. Everybody’s battling to grab your attention so I say when I get out okay I’m going to do videos that’s going to grab the connection. It’s going to connect with people cause I got to battle with the girl that’s naked I got to battle with the rapper. I got to battle with the athlete. My content is going to be based off of grabbing your attention immediately.”

Wallo and his cousin Gillie The King were ranked at No. 9 on Complex’s Hip-Hop Media Power Rankings list this year. Their platform Million Dollaz Worth of Game has been hit amongst fans and launched in 2019. The duo has interviewed several big-name guests, including Cardi B, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Young Thug, and more.
