The legal team behind Lil Durk in his murder-for-hire case has argued the use of lyrics as evidence by prosecutors is an indication they don’t have enough evidence.
In a statement shared with TMZ, attorneys for the Chicago rapper criticized the prosecution quoting his lyrics. “When you see an artist’s rap lyrics quoted as ‘evidence’ against them, it is a glaring indication that there is no real evidence against that person,” said Drew Findling, Marissa Goldberg, Jonathan Brayman, and Christy O’Connor of the Findling Law Firm.
Authorities have accused Durk of ordering the August 2022 hit that led to the death of Quando Rondo’s cousin Saviay’a Robinson. The prosecution claimed that he boasted about the process in his verse on Babyface Ray’s “Wonderful Wayne & Jackie Boy.”
“Told me they got an addy (gooo) / Got location (gooo) Green light (go, go, go, go, go) / Look on the news and see your son, You screamin’, ‘No, no’ (pussy!),” he raps on the track. The verse arrived in December 2022, several months after the death of Robinson.
“The claims in the indictment against Mr. Banks are false and lacking in the most basic due diligence. The real truth is that Durk Banks is a Grammy Award-winning artist, a dedicated father, and a loving husband,” his attorneys added. “Mr. Banks has been intensely committed to giving back to the Chicago community he loves through his Neighborhood Heroes Foundation and has put on more than a dozen charitable events over the last few years. He is looking forward to fighting against these false allegations in court.”
Durk was arrested in Florida in October for an alleged murder-for-hire plot targeting Quando Rondo in retaliation for the 2020 murder of King Von. While Rondo was uninjured in the shooting, his cousin was fatally shot. In the indictment, credit cards involved in the plot were alleged to have been linked to Lil Durk’s Only the Family (OTF) crew. In a superseding federal grand jury indictment last month, he was hit with two further felony counts.
Recently, 50 Cent stated that Durk could beat his case because he’s hired powerful lawyer Drew Findling, who has previously represented Lil Baby and Cardi B.
