Everyone wants to feel like a VIP.

These days, VIP packages for concerts, sporting events, and live entertainment have become a standard purchase option for consumers, offering exclusive perks beyond an entry ticket. For Tyler, the Creator’s upcoming ‘Chromakopia’ tour, for example, fans enjoy reserved seating, bespoke merch, and streamlined entrances to the venue.

People aren’t just buying these packages—they’re actively seeking them out.

The UFC’s answer to this demand is On Location. Led by Head of Combat Sports Rachel Nabatian, On Location crafts high-end packages for UFC fans that deliver “once-in-a-lifetime” experiences (It’s worth noting that On Location isn’t just limited to the UFC—the company covers all the sporting events you could think of, from the Paris Olympics to the Super Bowl to March Madness and beyond).

Hinging on the allure of unique experiences, packages include prime seating, athlete meet-and-greets, premium lounge space, and opportunities like walking inside the octagon post-fight. The highest-tier packages even include time with Dana White, the CEO of UFC.

Nabatian tells us that she sees multiple repeat buyers for UFC VIP packages; the demand has gotten so high that On Location essentially has a waiting list, where buyers send deposits to get the first crack at securing a coveted package. Every package is different, and constant updates are made so no two package experiences are the same.

With all the buzz on combat sports lately, we wanted to check it out for ourselves. Complex went to Madison Square Garden for UFC 309 to see what an On Location experience is like—complete with walking into the post-fight octagon (freshly stained in blood), and appearances from Donald Trump and Elon Musk.

The day before the fight

On Location tailors their packages to get a holistic view of the UFC experience, starting well before fight night and extending after the fight ends.

Our experience with UFC 309 began the day before, starting at the ceremonial weigh-in. On Location members get prime seating in front of the stage. Some VIP buyers were present on-stage with UFC CEO Dana White and the fighters themselves. Once the weigh-in concluded, there was an exclusive meet-and-greet and photo opportunity with the athletes.

Following the ceremonial weigh-in, On Location customers were chaperoned via private bus to a swanky event space for a party complete with refreshments and additional meet-and-greet opportunities. Athletes mingled with fans, and drinks were flowing.

A unique perk is the fact that On Location participants are paired with an on-site personal concierge that caters to your needs, from escorting you to your assigned VIP seating to facilitating those “one-of-a-lifetime” experiences like meeting your favorite athlete. Nabatian tells us that this detail provides a seamless experience that allows you to just let go and enjoy the moment.

Prelims

When arriving on the night of UFC 309, we were streamlined through a special VIP entrance that led us to the in-venue hospitality space.

Akin to a premium airport lounge, the hospitality space provided a comfortable area to view the prelims, complete with food, drinks, widescreen televisions, and more athlete meet-and-greets and photo opportunities. Some of the athletes who met with fans included Tom Aspinall, Kamaru Usman, Glover Teixeira, Paul Rojas Jr., and Caio Borralho, among others.

On Location creates an environment for athletes to mingle with fans in a way that feels authentic—nothing felt too contrived, and it was clear that the athletes actually wanted to meet with fans. It seemed that some of the athletes actually recognized repeat On Location customers. Nothing like chopping it up with your favorite UFC fighter over some complimentary refreshments!

As prelims ended, On Location fans were escorted to their premium VIP section for the main card. Nabatian tells us that On Location gets first choice of seat selection as they create their packages, so VIP fans get the best seats in the house.

Main Card

After you make your way to your seat, it’s really just time to enjoy the show—and UFC 309 did not disappoint.

Highest-tier VIP packages often involve walking to the octagon with a fighter as he or she gears up to brawl it out. In terms of the walkout, VIP buyers are right there with the athlete—seeing everything before the tunnel and feeling all the adrenaline too.

At UFC 309, fans witnessed an unexpected visit from Donald Trump, Elon Musk, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Tulsi Gabbard, along an absolute slugfest between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic as Jones knocked out Miocic with a spinning back kick to defend his UFC Heavyweight title.

However, the biggest draw (in our opinion) was the opportunity to gain access to the octagon post-fight with exclusive photo opportunities.

Post-fight

As the fight concluded and fans made their way out of Madison Square Garden, On Location buyers stayed in their seating section for a special opportunity to walk in the octagon.

It was a very surreal experience to step into the space where not even 30 minutes prior, Jon Jones knocked out Stipe Miocic and announced that he “decided not to retire,” despite many believing this would be his last fight.

Professional photographers were poised and ready to snap a photo (as they were throughout the weekend) of On Location fans as they wandered the octagon, but that didn’t stop many from taking their phones out and grabbing some lower-fi pics to share on social media.

The experience was all about living in the moment, after all.
