He said that Melo was sort of half-dressed, rushing toward the confrontation, and he seemed “insane” at the time. “He go downstairs to the tunnel, click the button before me,” Shumpert continued. “I come down afterwards, the man sitting on the post like this [crosses arms], staring at they side waiting for KG to come out. It take them at least 20-30 minutes, the man lost no fire.”
When Garnett finally approached Melo, he did so with ushers and security. Shumpert recalled that Melo called for KG to come over, to which he said, “Melo, over a basketball game?!” Shumpert said he’s “glad nothing happened and we can laugh about it now,” but he will “never forget” the story.
“What’s tough about that situation… I checked out the game, it was like seven minutes left, I’m on the sideline,” said Anthony. “I was checked out. After the game, in the Knicks in the garden, you got to cross to go to the locker room. … I really wanted to have a conversation, ’cause I was like, ‘the shit that you said?’ … I’m a Peace God now, so Ticket, you want to come on the brown couch, you want to come holla at us, have some fun?”
Shumpert questioned why the “Honey Nut Cheerios” comment circulated as much as it did, because he thinks there are far better cereals out there. “At least say Frosted Cheerios, something that’s banging,” he joked. “That’s what was tweaking me out! … It made no sense, who picks Honey Nut Cheerios off the rip like that?”
Melo concluded by inviting Garnett to the podcast. “You want to come on the brown couch, you want to come holla at us?” he said.
