Whether you watch videos on TikTok now or you used to watch the OG beauty YouTubers, if you are a beauty fan, chances are you have spent a good amount of time watching tutorials. But what would happen if tutorials were on a big screen and you were surrounded by people who shared your same passion for beauty? On Wednesday 21 November, we launched our inaugural Dazed Beauty Sessions with Gucci Beauty and did just that.
Hosted by Dazed Beauty’s very own editor Alex Peters, she was joined by renowned make-up artist Lauren Reynolds who gave the best tips and tricks for achieving the best holiday look. Model Li Linzi, who has walked two Gucci shows herself, was the perfect canvas to bring the looks to life.
60 beauty lovers, aspiring and established make-up artists all came together to enjoy the event. Before the evening officially started, guests were mingling in the reception and got to experience the collection in real life and try out the products.
Below we broke down what took place.
Gucci Beauty popcorn anyone? Hosted in an actual cinema room at The Cinema at Selfridges, guests enjoyed a screening more luxurious than usual. After watching the latest Gucci Beauty trailer for the collection, the screen projected the look up close so guests could see Lauren’s exact precision and method. Why watch two hours of Gladiator when you can learn the best make-up techniques to prep yourself, or your client, to look their best before they bump into an ex at a Christmas party this season?
Starting with a more natural look before creating a more experimental look, Lauren took us through two different styles, highlighting her skill and multifaceted abilities. The second look was created using the Gucci Illuminateur de Beauté, which got many ‘wows’ from the audience.
While working on the looks, she also gave the audience some intel about how she got her start, the Instagram DM to Thomas de Kluyver that changed her career and her relationship with Charli xcx. She also explained how mapping out her ideas on an iPad using Procreate is an effective way to articulate visions to clients, and how watercolour brushes from art shops are just as amazing to use for make-up.
Have you ever wondered how to keep your make-up on all night? Well, it seems so has everyone else. Talking about how she keeps her clients looking good when they have a long event or red carpet, she explained her top tip is strategic powdering. Instead of a heavy setting spray, she noted thinner layers of make-up with powder in between is best. Skin prep was also a very important step, as she noted it all starts with a good, clean base with no eye cream and a light moisturiser.
Lauren also explained to guests how to adjust the looks to be suitable for multiple skin types and shades – pro tip: if you have pale skin and dark hair a more grey eyebrow colour works best and more reddish blushes are perfect for darker skin!
As well as a goody bag with some Gucci Beauty products and a copy of the latest issue of Dazed, each guest left with a gift card redeemable at the Gucci Beauty kiosk in Selfridges.
