Andrew Schulz has responded to Kendrick Lamar allegedly dissing him on his new album GNX.
On a recent DJ Akademiks live stream, the media personality shared that he recently spoke to Schulz about lyrics from the song “wacced out murals” that some thought addressed Schulz and his recent comments about Black women.
“Don’t let no white comedian talk about no Black women—that’s law,” Lamar rapped.
“His reaction was, ‘Is this guy too woke to understand a joke?” said Akademiks, referencing their alleged conversation.
While Lamar doesn’t name Schulz directly, the comedian’s comments about Black women on an episode of the Flagrant podcast from August led many to speculate that the rapper was referencing him.
British podcasters James Duncan and Fuhad Dawodu of the ShxtsNGigs podcast appeared on Flagrant at the time and had a conversation about the “Black Girlfriend Effect” trend on TikTok.
“You’ll see a guy who’s had a Black girlfriend, and all of a sudden he’s got a buzz cut, clean shape-up, tattoos,” Duncan joked.
Their conversation shifted when Schulz brought up the stereotype of the “angry Black woman,” saying, “They shave their hair because they start losing it from being so stressed, being around this Black girl that’s complaining about sh-t all the fucking time.”
“They grow a beard because there’s more cushion when they get slapped,” he continued. “I think the Black Girlfriend Effect might be a protective instinct.”
In a later episode of the ShxtsNGigs podcast, Duncan and Dawodu issued an apology. “Andrew was making a joke, frankly a racist joke, and we were laughing at it,” Duncan said.
“We’re sorry. For me it’s one of them ones where you don’t realize that, when you’re part of a community, you don’t realize you can hurt your own community,” Dawodu added.
