“Morning! Let’s drop something Friday!!!” one of the messages read. “New Carti Friday.”

“Play This” arrives as fans hold their collective breath for I Am Music, the long-awaited follow-up to Carti’s 2020 sophomore album, Whole Lotta Red. Carti spoke about the effort during ComplexCon weekend, confirming Kanye West was a contributor.
“Shout out to my n**** Kanye, you know what I’m saying,” Carti told a nightclub crowd. “He over here making beats and shit. That album gonna be crazy, I can’t wait to show y’all n***as.”
It’s safe to assume Kanye will take on a producer role, as Carti also revealed I Am Music will have zero guest artists. He confirmed this while teasing the album’s fast-approaching release date.
“Y’all want me to drop the album this year or January?” he asked a group of fans.
“This year. Whenever you want,” one fan replied before asking which artists would be featured.
“I’m tryna do this by myself,” he mumbled from the backseat of an SUV.
