Lil Dicky has given fans some motivation when it comes to chasing their dreams when people don’t believe in them.

During his visit to Kai Cenat’s Mafiathon 2 stream, Lil Dicky took some time out to speak on his journey to success and how he had to overcome the people closest to him not believing in their ability to make it. According to Dicky, his family and ex-girlfriend at the time he began recording music didn’t think he would succeed and advised that he should pursue something else.

However, Dicky was adamant in chasing his dreams and was able to make them into a reality. His music career blossomed and opened the door for him to cross into Hollywood and become an actor.

“I feel like I’m an example of that things are surprisingly possible in life,” said Dicky. “If you think about it, I was just a kid and I didn’t do anything growing up. I didn’t do theater, I had no other form of belief other than everyone thinking that I was like they’re funny friend. And I feel like you know of all the people out there that have talent, let’s say, I’m just making it up, .01 percent. .01 percent of that .01 percent are even gonna go for it.”

He continued, “So simply by going for it, you’re increasing your odds exponentially. When I started working on music, truly everyone in my life thought I was insane, before I put anything out, I was working on it for like three years.I was on vacation with my girlfriend at the time and my parents in Hawaii. They all sat me down, and, one by one, all told me why I shouldn’t try to be a rapper. I should just abandon everything. I was gonna throw away my career, and it was just not the right decision, so even the people that believed in me, like the people closest to me, didn’t even believe.”

Dicky continued to remind viewers that believing in themselves is all that’s needed. The 36-year-old said the day he uploaded his first song on YouTube, tears of relief came from his eyes because he had actually made the jump and given it his all.

Lil Dicky broke out onto the scene in 2013 when his song “Ex-Boyfriend” went viral and clocked in over 1 million views on YouTube. From there, Lil Dicky released his debut album, Professional Rapper in 2015 and later starred in his first TV show, Dave which premiered in 2020.
