The Copenhagen-based composer, songwriter and producer explores the existential wisdom of water on her debut album.
With Norwegian roots and a Danish upbringing, emerging artist Fie Eike draws on her vivid memories of Norway’s dramatic fjords and rugged mountainous landscapes to craft the atmospheric backdrop for her aptly titled debut album, “Water”. The album delves into the existential and emotional wisdom of water, exploring its transformative and healing properties.
Opening with the tranquil and ethereal vocal composition “Free”, “Water” is an expansive 12-track project that showcases Fie’s powerful yet delicate vocal range, woven into intricate and deeply emotive musical arrangements. The production is particularly striking, featuring lush and resonant piano melodies, layered with rich electronic textures, and innovative field recordings of water and ocean sounds captured at various evocative locations across Denmark. These elements reflect the album’s profound naturalistic themes and its immersive, nature-inspired soundscape. Altogether, “Water” stands as an impressive debut for the burgeoning artist, seamlessly capturing the essence of nature both thematically and sonically.
Explaining how nature played a hugely influential part in creating the album, Fie reflects, “From these subconscious creative practices came an exploration and conversation with nature. As I listened and observed, I started recognising my own human nature in my interactions with nature. I suddenly felt like I was part of my surroundings and not separate from them, and it felt like space and time completely dissolved. A strong sense of connectedness emerged, that I recognised from experiences in nature during my childhood, in the forest and from the landscapes of Norway where I spent my summers growing up.”
To celebrate the release of her debut album, Fie Eike has planned a series of immersive live performances. These unique concerts aim to provide audiences with a space for introspection and self-discovery, blending her music with guided nature walks, video installations, and tactile experiences inspired by the natural world.
