Ellis King is primed for a monumental breakthrough in 2025 with the release of her highly anticipated debut EP, “Better Luck”. This raw and introspective project offers deeply personal reflections and captivating musical moments, anchored in a universal sense of vulnerability and helplessness. Collaborating with acclaimed producer Steph Marziano (noted for her work with Hayley Williams, Cassandra Jenkins, and Idris Elba) and distinguished mixer Matt Wiggins (Hinds, Glass Animals, Adele), “Better Luck” is set to make an emphatic and unforgettable entrance on the music scene.

Building anticipation ahead of the EP’s release, King has unveiled the single “1996”. Hailed as one of the EP’s most poignant and insightful tracks, “1996” brims with lush, immersive arrangements featuring gentle guitar strings and shimmering piano melodies. These are powerfully underscored by King’s relatable lyricism and emotive, resonant vocals, offering a tantalising glimpse into the full scope of his artistry.

Reflecting on the creative inspirations behind “1996”, Ellis shares, “It’s about dating someone who didn’t care as much about me as I did about them and them knowing from the start, that they didn’t want anything more from me but continuing to see me and so dragging out the inevitable in a painful way.

“I was due to return to Australia and move in with my friends to the area I knew this person lived in, and I wrote ‘1996’ as an outlet for the anxiety building up around me going home. I feel like this song is so relevant to those early twenties heart fractures, that feel like breaks at the time and I feel like that it really plays into that trope of having so much fuel to write about someone you dated for 5 minute who felt like the entire solar system to you when you were just a blip on their radar.”
