Pre-orders for ASAP Rocky’s upcoming album Don’t Be Dumb appear to be getting canceled—months after the initial release date.
The oft-delayed album was first announced in December 2022 during an Amazon Music Live event and was originally set to be released in August before being pushed to an unspecified fall date.
On Saturday, retailers appear to have been canceling pre-orders of the album’s vinyl edition based on screenshots circulating online.
The 36-year-old rapper spoke to Complex’s Mike DeStefano in September and blamed the album’s delay on his perfectionism, leaks, and clearance issues.
“There were different reasons why, mainly being leaks and clearance stuff,” Rocky said at the time. “But it gave me more time to be creative and put some finishing touches.”
“I’m a perfectionist and I think sometimes that’s my own worst enemy,” he added. “I like to keep revising and editing, pushing things to the limit. I want to explore every option and every possibility. I want to assure that all of my fans will be fulfilled when they get this music.”
In the lead-up to the album, Rocky released “Highjack,” taking shots at rappers who have allegedly “stole his flow” and addressing Drake’s supposed continued interest in Rihanna.
In a separate interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Rocky said of the album, “It’s just we coming with a whole new aesthetic on everything, especially with German expressionism and the whole ghetto futurism GR1M thing.”
Another track meant to be released from Don’t Be Dumb was “Tailor Swif,” which leaked in full online. Rocky also told Lowe that he would not include any previously leaked songs on the project.
As of publishing, Rocky has not addressed the pre-order cancellations nor an updated release date on his social media accounts.
