Andres Serrano is an artist and photographer born in 1950 in New York City. Raised as a strict Roman Catholic, much of Serrano’s work explores and challenges religion through the artist’s interpretation of traditional religious iconography with the incorporation of human bodily fluids such as blood, urine, semen and breast milk. Two of his most notable works are Piss Christ and the Blood and Semen series. While a majority of Serrano’s body of work has been embroiled in controversy, none more than Piss Christ; a photograph of a plastic crucifix submerged in a tank of the artist’s urine. The reactions to the piece ranged from denouncement by US Senators to vandalizing of prints by Christian protestors to death threats. This fall, Supreme has worked on a collection featuring Andres Serrano’s pieces, Piss Christ, Madonna & Child II and Blood and Semen II. The collection consists of two Hooded Sweatshirts, Sweatpants and two graphic T-Shirts. In addition Supreme has worked with Vans® on a Sk8-Hi, Chukka and Old Skool featuring Blood and Semen II. Available in-store NY, LA, London, Paris and Online September 21st. Available in Japan on September 23rd.
