Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg are back in action on their first joint project in roughly three decades.
On Wednesday (October 30), the legendary West Coast rap artists dropped a hilarious teaser to announce the December 13th release date of their upcoming album, Missionary. The clip below shows two Mormon missionaries approaching a house and being deterred by a woman who opens the door before dropping The Book of Mormon and running away.
A snippet of a Dr. Dre-produced track is heard in the clip, marking one of the musician’s latest collaborations with Snoop Dogg in years. The two first linked up on the 1992 track “Deep Cover” before Snoop rejoined Dre on “Nuthin’ But a G Thang” and “Fuck With Dre Day.” The former N.W.A. member would later executive produce Snoop’s 1993 debut, Doggystyle, which Missionary pays homage to.
“After 30 years, believe it or not, man, this is our first time working on an album in 30 years,” Dr. Dre told Complex around the 1:30-minute mark of the video below. “I did ‘Doggystyle’ for him 30 years ago. We’ve done things in between, a song here and there and did shows and shit, but this is the first time that we got together and worked on an entire album in 30 years. I feel like it’s some of the best music I’ve ever made and I’m really proud of it.”
Dr. Dre also revealed that Snoop’s new sound will have a “certain level of maturity that I think people are going to really enjoy.”
Missionary will be Snoop’s twentieth album overall and first in two years since releasing BODR in 2022, following his acquisition of Death Row Records.
